Why We Celebrate World Sushi Day – 18 June

Sushi is our game at Blowfish, and what better day to celebrate this amazing dish than International Sushi Day! Every year since 2009 on 18 June, the Japanese dish is commemorated for its deliciousness, benefits, and creativity.

Sushi has a long history that stretches as far back as the 1st Century BC and is still enjoyed today across the world. If you are joining us for the first time, here are our tips on how to start eating sushi. If you are worried about chopstick etiquette, we’ve got you covered! Read all about it here. And if you are a sushi-connoisseur, but would like to spruce up your knowledge, you can read all about the ingredients and styles here, while we discuss wasabi here.

Sushi has many health benefits. It’s rich in Omega-3, protein, and vitamin B12, as well as other essential minerals. Sushi has antibacterial and antioxidant properties and can help prevent wrinkles. You can read in detail about these benefits here. Depending on what ingredients you use, sushi can gain even more health benefits: dishes with avocado, for example, can help to protect against heart disease and lower blood pressure.

This World Sushi Day, why not book one of our sushi workshops for you and your friends to try your hand at making sushi yourself? Or, you can visit Blowfish on 18 June 2023 and enjoy our half-price sushi special, which starts at midday, while raising a toast to one of the best dishes to ever exist. You can view our sushi menu here. Be sure to book a table to avoid disappointment and don’t hesitate to ask our friendly waiters and sushi chefs for recommendations. And don’t forget to tag us in your perfect Instagram picture!
